  • Jennifer Anderson-Ochoa | ASR

    Jennifer Anderson-Ochoa, MIA Project Manager II Jennifer Anderson-Ochoa has been working with ASR since January 2016. Jennifer brings a wealth of practical ‘data to action’ experience and has worked on evaluations and assessments in the areas of racial equity, restorative justice, community health, adult and youth homelessness, COVID-19, and child health. Some of her recent projects include the Santa Cruz County Black Health Matters Initiative Spotlight , Kaiser Community Health Needs Assessment, the City of Watsonville Ad Hoc Committee on Policing and Social Equity Report , and Stanislaus County Community Assessments, 2019 Family and Children Edition and 2021 COVID-19 Edition . Jennifer received her Master’s degree in International Administration, with a concentration in Cross Cultural Communication and Training, from the School for International Training in Brattleboro, VT. She received her BA in Sociology from George Washington University. Prior to working at ASR, Jennifer directed two family resource centers in Santa Cruz County, where core programs focused on strengthening the safety net, and included early childhood education/parenting support, medical home education, nutrition education, restorative justice with youth on probation, ESL and Spanish literacy classes, rapid re-housing and homelessness prevention, and public assistance enrollment support. Jennifer also served on the steering committee of the Youth Violence Prevention Task Force. Prior to that, Jennifer worked for 23 years in HIV/AIDS prevention, both in the United States and while living in Sub-Saharan Africa. In part, she worked to grow a private foundation focused on making grants to community groups in Africa that support children affected by HIV. She managed a portfolio of more than 100 grantees in six African countries and helped to develop a groundbreaking Monitoring and Evaluation and Technical Assistance program.     Meet The Team For staff here at ASR, this work is more than a job – it is a calling. We came to ASR because we wanted to be at the front lines of community change. Our team includes more than two dozen researchers, analysts, and support experts across our California Central Coast, San Francisco Bay Area, and Sacramento offices. Our team of social scientists includes academics and practitioners from the fields of developmental psychology, human development, sociology, anthropology, education, public health, and public policy. Many of us are bi-lingual and/or bi-cultural. We have staff fluent in Spanish, Chinese (Mandarin), Hindi, Italian, Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, Russian, Hebrew, and Bahasa Indonesia.   • Sayfan | ASR

    Liat Sayfan, PhD Senior Data Manager Dr. Liat Sayfan is a developmental psychologist with 25 years of experience conducting research and evaluations in the field of child development and educational programs. She has extensive experience leading all aspects of the research cycle, from survey design and pilot testing, to creating and using protocols for data cleaning and analysis, conducting applied statistical analysis using primary and secondary data sets, and providing digestible oral presentations and effective communication of study results to clients with little to no understanding of statistics or research methods. She is adept at juggling the responsibilities of multiple research projects conducted simultaneously, and has many years of experience mentoring students and supervising colleagues to increase their professional development. Liat also has substantial teaching experience at the college level, including statistics classes, research method and child development classes. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Statistics, a Master’s in Early Childhood Education, and a Ph.D. in Developmental Psychology, In her spare time, she loves to engage in physical activities – she’s an avid CrossFitter, a Brazilian Jujitsu practitioner, and teaches Spin and fitness classes.     Jessica Irwin, PhD Senior Research Analyst Dr. Jessica Irwin joined ASR in 2023 as a Senior Research Analyst. She earned a Ph.D. in developmental psychology with a minor in statistics from Wayne State University, and completed postdoctoral training at the University of Rochester, UCLA, and Chapman University. Her research used a biopsychosocial theoretical framework to examine risk and resilience in the context of early life experiences. Dr. Irwin has extensive training in data analysis and expertise ranging from design and implementation of research protocols and assessments, to cleaning, organizing, and analyzing data, and creating engaging visuals of the results. She also has years of experience teaching statistics, research methods, and developmental psychology courses as a university professor. In her free time, she enjoys cooking, crafting, and spending time with her fiancé and dog. She is also a passionate advocate for disability rights. < Back Jessica@appliedsurveyresearch.org

    Alyssa Mullins, PhD Project Manager Dr. Alyssa Mullins is an applied sociologist based in the Sacramento office. Since joining ASR in 2021, she has actively contributed to strategic plans, annual evaluation reports for First 5s, and a recurring evaluation of efforts to reduce disparities among African American infant and child deaths. She has also worked with partners to streamline and strengthen data collection to ensure accuracy, consistency, and reduce burden on data staff. Additionally, she prepares interactive data visualization tools, as well as an exploration of community-wide indicators of interest and disparity calculations. She received her Master’s in Applied Sociology and PhD in Sociology from the University of Central Florida. Past research and published works include assessments of youth and family homelessness, personal impacts of intentional childlessness on work, relationships, and obtaining care from health providers, and exploring nursing workforce shortages as a public health crisis. She is passionate about data-driven interventions to support families and communities, as well as communicating data in easily digestible and understandable formats for audiences of all skill levels and expertise. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her partner and dogs, crafting, traveling, and exploring local markets, coffee shops, and music venues.
